Alone / Season 1 and Season 2 comparison

Same coastline.
Different choices.

Compare the equipment selected by two ten-person casts. Both collections retain the original lists, while this page groups comparable choices into shared families.

Two-season comparison. Equipment and regional context appear first. Outcomes from both seasons are inside a clearly marked results panel. No other-season results are included.
Season 1 / 2015 US broadcast

Ten people. A hundred selected slots.

The first collection preserves nineteen source categories and each person’s exact ten-item list.

Where the lists changed.

Each bar counts people, from zero to ten. A person contributes once to a category even if they used two selected slots for it. The complete table below includes all twenty shared families.

A zero means this family does not appear in the selected ten-item lists. It does not establish that no comparable item was supplied by production or made in camp.

What makes the comparison fairer?

We recompute participant frequencies from the individual lists rather than adding category totals. Season 1’s tarp and extra tarp entries share one comparison family. One person selected both, so the combined Season 1 figure is six people, not seven. The original nineteen-category source record remains intact.

Cooking pots and pans form one family, as do different saw designs. Paracord and climbing rope remain separate; knives and multi-tools remain separate. Repeated emergency-ration entries count as separate slots in the exact kit, but each participant counts only once in the ration-frequency row.

The twenty-family comparison is a reading aid. It does not claim identical specifications, identical rules or equal utility. Brands, comfort standards, rating units and product recommendations are not inferred where the original record does not establish them.

A shared broad region.

Both collections cover expeditions in northern Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Coastal conditions connect them, while individual drop sites and access to resources still differ.

US broadcast years are labels for the television editions. They do not establish the season of the year in which each expedition was filmed. An exact Season 2 drop-off date is not established in this edition.

From watching to learning

Choices raise better questions.

A frequent item is a useful prompt for a conversation with an instructor. Ask about conditions, safe practice and what a course actually teaches, before turning a television list into a shopping list.

The two winning endpoints differ by 10 days. They are not averages or a controlled measure of difficulty. Four precise Season 2 durations remain unconfirmed in the primary material reviewed, so a complete-cast mean or median is not presented.

Sites, food access, weather, health, personal decisions and the production endpoint can affect a stay. A longer winning run does not establish which cast had greater skill or whether an equipment choice caused the result.
