Participant dossier / Alone Season 1

Joe Robinet

Season 1 background: Bushcraft practitioner and video creator · Windsor, Ontario, Canada

Before the island.

Joe grew up building shelters and observing wildlife. Courses helped him develop wild-food identification and fire-making skills. Before the show he had already experimented with solo winter living in an Ontario igloo.

What happened in Season 1.

After struggling to make fire in wet conditions, Joe succeeded and then lost his ferro rod. Keeping a single fire alive indefinitely would compete with sleep and food gathering. The loss became the tipping point for his departure on Day 4.

Why the journey ended

Lost his ferro rod

A 2015 recap specifies Day 4. Some summary tables omit his day value. Wayne and Joe share a rounded four-day duration; do not infer an exact extraction order from that alone.

● 2026 evidence

The November 2026 research check.

Joe has clear dated public activity in 2026. March and April podcast interviews discuss his wilderness filmmaking, canoe trips, the book Surviving Joe and the story behind his documentary. His official website links the book, documentary and YouTube channel. Those sources document his public creative work; they do not independently establish his current health, residence or private circumstances.
