Participant dossier / Alone Season 1

Sam Larson

Season 1 background: Outdoor-equipment retail employee · Lincoln, Nebraska, United States

Before the island.

Sam had pursued wilderness living since childhood. At 14 he sold belongings to fund a Canadian canoe expedition, then studied bushcraft in Maine and travelled with minimal equipment. His wife was expecting their first child when he left for the island.

What happened in Season 1.

The youngest member of the original cast lasted 55 days. Lack of food and sleep, severe weather and the desire to return to his pregnant wife accumulated into a decision to leave. His long stay was as much a psychological journey as a technical exercise.

Why the journey ended

Hunger, exhaustion, storm conditions and the pull of home

● 2026 evidence

The November 2026 research check.

Sam's current institutional profile is with Redemption Hill Bible Church in Hickman, Nebraska, where he is listed among its pastors. The church describes a move into ministry after a decade in outdoor education. A 2026 sermon publication supports this public role. His older Jack Mountain interview remains a useful, clearly dated guide to his outdoor teaching work.

Dated evidence reviewed: Aug 2, 2026

This is a verified dated example, not a claim that it is his latest published sermon.
